NEWS BITES
PC City Council Approved $425M Budget & Tax Rate 🗳️
Palm Coast City Council approved a $425 million budget and announced a small reduction in the property tax rate effective October 1. The city’s budget for 2025 is an 17.9% increase over the 2024 budget.
The 2025 millage rate was set to 4.1893, or $4.1893 per $1,000 of taxable property value. Most homeowners with homesteads will see only minor fluctuations in their city tax bills
While the total budget is substantial, much of it derives from self-sustaining funds like utility, stormwater, and garbage collection, which function independently from the general fund. The general fund, which totals just $61 million or 17 percent of the overall budget, covers essential services such as police, fire, and parks.
One of the BETTER ways to put in an ISSUE or CONCERN to this CITY is VIA EMAIL at:
Graham Park Boardwalk Closure to End October 4th 🚴🏿
Deteriorated Boardwalk Repairs for safety reasons should be completed by 10/04/24.
“We understand how popular Graham Swamp is among our residents and how important it is to keep this space accessible,” said Deputy Director of Parks and Recreation Brittany McDermott. “That’s why our dedicated parks and trails team will complete these essential repairs as efficiently and quickly as possible, prioritizing the safety of our community.”
Palm Coast City encourages residents and visitors to plan alternative routes. there are other trails and parks nearby, find here: https://www.palmcoast.gov/parks-and-recreation/facilities
Massive Veranda Bay Beach Development met by angry Flagler Beach area residents 😡
During a special workshop meeting on September 24, Flagler Beach residents expressed a clear message to their commissioners regarding the proposed Veranda Bay development:
“We don’t want to be like Winter Park.” Resident Matt Hathaway emphasized that, in his 15 years in the area, he has never encountered anyone wishing to emulate Orlando's lifestyle. Community members voiced their concerns over the 900-acre development, which is seeking to annex into Flagler Beach.
Vacation Rentals: A Nightmare for Palm Coast Residents 🤯
The Canal Community Coalition, initially formed in the C Section, has expanded to nearly 100 members, all of whom live near short-term vacation rentals.
Over 900 properties in Flagler County are listed as short-term rentals on Airbnb, including some in nearby areas. Registering a short-term rental costs $400 in Flagler County, with Palm Coast proposing to implement the same fee.
Residents report ongoing issues related to these rentals, including excessive noise, litter, obstructed streets, and confrontational behavior from both owners and guests.
In response, Palm Coast is developing regulations for short-term rentals. Coalition members advocate for higher registration fees to fund adequate enforcement, as well as restrictions on occupancy, parking, and noise regulations. They also emphasize the need for safety measures, particularly regarding reckless behavior by renters, such as speeding in “no wake” zones and swimming during lightning storms, raising concerns about potential injuries.
