Palm Coast Residents are Seeing More Sssnakes! 🐍

There is an uptick in the amount of snakes being seen in all the debris left in the swales and front yards. Be careful out there folks, that might not be a stick your picking up!!!

Palm Coast Challenges Its Own Council Members' Claims as It Declares Debt Referendum 'Clear and Unambiguous' 👨‍⚖️

Despite significant divisions within the Palm Coast City Council on the issue, the council has decided to contest a lawsuit aimed at invalidating a proposed charter amendment on the ballot for the Nov. 5 election. They filed a response to the lawsuit, primarily seeking dismissal on technical grounds. This decision came after a closed meeting last week, which indicated a clear intention to resist the lawsuit rather than pursue a settlement as proposed by the plaintiff's attorney.

However, the city's assertion that the ballot language is "clear and unambiguous" contradicts previous statements made by a majority of council members regarding the clarity of that language, as well as their votes to remove the ballot from consideration.

The core of the disagreement centers on transparency and clarity. The proposed amendment suggests "updating" the charter language, asking voters if they support eliminating restrictions on the city’s public-private partnerships. This would allow the city to "address growth by requiring future residents to contribute to infrastructure costs." Importantly, the ballot does not inform voters that they would be voting to remove the current requirement for a referendum when the city seeks to borrow over $15 million (with some exceptions) or enter into leases exceeding three

Palm Coast Set to Open Flagler County's First Disc Golf Course 🥏

Palm Coast is preparing to launch the first disc golf course in Flagler County, made possible by land donated for use as a city park. The 18-hole course will be constructed on a nine-acre site at the southwest corner of Pine Lakes Parkway and White Mill Drive, with plans to preserve much of the existing tree canopy.

This new facility will feature water stations, a parking area with 20-30 spaces, and will be linked to the Pine Lakes Parkway multi-use trail. The land was donated by Marbella Apartments LLC as part of a $500,000 impact fee credit associated with the development of Marbella Apartments, a planned 300-unit project located along White Mill Drive.

As part of the agreement with the city, the developer must complete the park's construction before any occupancy certificates for the apartments can be issued. According to Chief of Staff Jason DeLorenzo, the developer has already initiated site preparation work for the project.

Short-Term Vacation Rental Ordinance Postponed Again, Set for Discussion on December 4. 📜

In a bid to refine the city’s short-term rental regulations, the Palm Coast City Council has postponed its initial vote on the ordinance once more. This ordinance addresses several key issues, including maximum occupancy limits, safety standards, background check requirements, and enforcement measures.

The council also aims to establish a fee structure that will ensure the ordinance can sustain itself financially, covering at least the cost of a dedicated code enforcement officer. The ordinance will be revisited during the council's workshop meeting on December 4 for further discussion.

One specific aspect still under consideration is the requirements for background checks. The council is leaning towards accepting the checks provided by certain short-term rental platforms, rather than mandating that all operators conduct their own.

Post-hatchlings (washbacks) cannot get back to their ocean home by themselves- but don't worry we're here to help. When they are brought to our Hospital, our staff and intern are busy caring for them.

Just like all babies, our post-hatchling (washbacks) received around the clock care which includes multiple times a day feedings, daily exams and weight checks, and additional fluid therapy or medications if needed.

We make sure that each baby receives the best care while with us to regain their strength and energy. Once ready they will all get a boat ride offshore back to their Sargassum habitat which is miles offshore.

If you are interested in helping us help them, our adopt a washback campaign is running through Thursday, October 31st. By adopting a washback you are able to name one and help support essential supplies needed for their continued care. Our goal is to have 200 washbacks named!

Today, FloridaCommerce activated the Florida Small Business Emergency Bridge Loan Program, making $50 million available for businesses impacted by Hurricane Milton. Florida small business owners in need of assistance are encouraged to visit FloridaJobs.org/EBL to apply for the Florida Small Business Emergency Bridge Loan Program.

The program provides short-term, zero-interest loans to small businesses that experienced economic injury or physical damage due to Hurricane Milton. Interested applicants can apply now through December 4, 2024, or until all available funds are expended.
Eligible small businesses may apply for loans of up to $50,000 through the program. Loans of up to $100,000 are available for agriculture and aquaculture small businesses, and loans of up to $150,000 are available for citrus and cattle operations. Loans approved through the Emergency Bridge Loan Program are intended to “bridge the gap” between the time a disaster impacts a business and when a business has secured longer-term recovery funding, such as federally or commercially available loans, insurance claims, or other resources.

"In 1968, a van driven by bank employess was pulled over by a motocop who claimed the van had been rigged with explosives. The cop got under the car to “diffuse” the bomb.
